2012 Award for Excellence in Design, AIA Baltimore Chapter
After being completely damaged by fire in the winter of 2010, Park Plaza’s renovation and recovery began. The project consisted of the complete renovation and restoration of three contiguous buildings to its prior use a mixed use complex featuring ground floor commercial and restaurants and upper-level office space.
The renovations included complete new energy efficient mechanical systems, elevator and life safety upgrades and strategies for improved accessibility.
Renovation to the exterior required compliance with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards and approval by the City’s Commission for Historical and Architectural Preservation (CHAP). It is considered a contributing building within Baltimore’s Mount Vernon Historic District and the federal government’s Mount Vernon National Historic Landmark District.
